Sunworks and Solcius went bankrupt. Here's what to do if they installed your solar.

Sunworks, of Provo, Utah, was a publicly traded installer that had been in business since 2002 and bought the residential installer Solcius in 2021. On February 5, 2024 it filed Chapter 7, the liquidation chapter, along with three subsidiaries. There was no reorganization and no buyer for the business: 640 employees were let go, the assets went to a trustee, and the customers in fifteen states went from having an installer on Friday to having none on Monday. Thirteen months later, in March 2025, a service company called EnergyAid bought the customer data and the monitoring sites out of the bankruptcy. That is the whole story, and this page is the calm version of what it means for your roof.

How this was calculated

Expected production comes from PVWatts, the federal solar model from the National Laboratory of the Rockies (formerly NREL), using typical-year weather for your area, your system size, and a fixed roof mount at the pitch and direction given. It's summed month by month from your install date to today, with a small allowance for normal panel aging. Your actual number comes from you. The comparison is only as good as those inputs.

Thresholds: 85 percent or above reads as normal, because weather, shade, and dust easily account for that much. Between 65 and 85 percent is worth a look. Below 65 percent, something is usually wrong.

This is a production comparison, not an inspection. It cannot detect electrical faults, wiring damage, or safety problems, and a "normal" result does not mean the system is safe. If you smell burning, see scorch marks, or hear buzzing at the inverter, turn the system off at the disconnect and call a licensed electrician.

The hardware. Both companies installed other makers' panels and inverters, and those manufacturers warrant their equipment for 10 to 25 years, to you, regardless of the installer

Your utility interconnection and net metering agreement
Your loan or lease, unfortunately. It was made by a lender and is serviced by whoever holds it now

What actually happened

Sunworks had been shrinking for a year before the filing: revenue was down nearly 30 percent year over year in late 2023, the residential side was down 44 percent, and the chief financial officer and chief legal officer both resigned in the weeks before. The Chapter 7 petition on February 5, 2024 covered Sunworks Inc. and three subsidiaries, including Solcius, and stated plainly that the assets would be liquidated. Nobody took over the customers at the time. In March 2025 EnergyAid, a solar service company that had done the same thing with Titan Solar Power's customer base, announced it had acquired the Sunworks and Solcius intellectual property, customer data, and monitoring sites through the bankruptcy court, and launched a paid membership on April 1, 2025 offering monitoring, remote troubleshooting, and discounted repair scheduling.

Two things follow. EnergyAid did not buy your warranty; it bought the ability to find you and to run the monitoring site you used to log into. Its membership is a service plan you can take or leave, and any licensed solar contractor can service the system. And because Sunworks was a public company, the SEC filings around the collapse are public record if you ever need to show a lender or a buyer what happened and when.

Your app: two cases

If you logged into an Enphase, SolarEdge, Tesla, or other manufacturer app, it still works, and the only question is whether the account is under your email or the installer's. The brand guides walk through getting it transferred into your own name. If you logged into a Sunworks or Solcius branded dashboard, that site now belongs to EnergyAid and is part of its membership. You are not required to buy it: the inverter maker's own app can be set up under your name for free using the serial on the gateway, and the brand guides show how. Not sure which inverter you have? Run the free check above. Two and a half years without an installer is long enough for a dead string or a tripped breaker to have gone unnoticed. Most systems come back normal; knowing which kind you have is the point.
Register every serial number with the manufacturer, under your own name: panels, inverter or microinverters, battery. Registration is free and it is what makes a claim go smoothly.
Get the monitoring into your own name with the inverter maker. Brand guides above.
Find your loan servicer. It is on your latest statement, not on anything Sunworks sent you. That company handles payoff letters and the UCC fixture filing on your title when you sell.
Save the paperwork. Contract, panel layout, permit, interconnection approval, any production guarantee page. Photograph every equipment label. The Report Card puts all of it on one dated page.
Decide about EnergyAid on the merits. If you want someone watching the system and a repair company on call, a membership may be worth it. If you just want your data back, the free path above gets you there.

Questions Sunworks and Solcius owners keep asking

Is my 25-year warranty gone?: The 25-year warranty on the panels is the panel maker's and it stands. The workmanship warranty was Sunworks' and it is gone. Roof penetrations, wiring, and racking were only ever covered by workmanship, so a roofer's look at the mount flashings is worth the visit on any system more than a few years old.
EnergyAid says it "took over" my system. Do I owe them anything?: No. EnergyAid bought data and monitoring sites, not your contract. Its membership is optional. Ask in writing what exactly is included before paying, and compare it to setting up the manufacturer's free app yourself.
My system underproduces and the contract had a guarantee.: Run the free check to put a dated number on the shortfall. A production guarantee from Sunworks is a claim in a Chapter 7 estate that has had two years to be picked over, so expect little from that route. If the shortfall is large, check the panel layout in your app: dead microinverters or a tripped string is a manufacturer warranty claim, which is the better path.
What if I'm selling the house?: Buyers and inspectors get nervous when the installer's name comes up in a bankruptcy search, and a public company's bankruptcy is easy to find.
