Sunnova solar transfer when selling a house: who handles it now
Updated October 29, 2026.
Sunnova filed Chapter 11 on June 8, 2025 and sold its customer contracts to Solaris Assets. SunStrong Management now handles billing, collections and customer service for those accounts, so if you're selling, the transfer to your buyer runs through SunStrong, not Sunnova.
Why it stalls
- The wrong address: the company on your contract isn't the one answering your emails, so the request has to go to SunStrong.
- The buyer's approval: many agreements require the buyer to qualify before the transfer is approved.
- No written answer: transfer packets, buyout quotes and lien releases move slowly when everything happens by phone.
The deadline
SunStrong's own home-sale request page says lease changes for a sale “must be completed prior to final close of sales” (SunStrong). Your closing date is the deadline, and the clock starts the day you list.
What gives it a date
A dated written request, sent early, gives the transfer a date. That's the letter below.
More: selling with a Sunnova or SunPower lease, is Sunnova still in business, who is Solaris Assets LLC, can you sell a house with leased solar.
The transfer request letter. I write it for you from your own agreement: addressed to SunStrong, quoting your transfer terms, stating your closing date and asking for a written answer by a date. If no written answer comes within 30 days, the follow-up letter is free.
$99 flat, ready in 3 business days. You read and approve it, then send it yourself.

Closing date already set, or weighing a buyout? The Home Sale or Buyout Packet ($249) adds the buyout and release terms and a one-page summary for the closing file.
“After the letter was sent, it was mere days that they got back to me with a much more positive email looking into all our issues causing the total system to be down.”
Tami B., SunStrong customer
What happened next: after her letter, SunStrong answered in writing within days, saying it would put billing and collections on hold, cancel auto-pay and set up a deferment while it looks into the system. SunStrong then confirmed in writing that it recognized the hail storm as a Force Majeure Event and applied a three-month payment deferment. See page 1 of her letter.
What this page isn't
It isn't legal advice. Agreements and state rules differ, and your own agreement wins over anything general here. I prepare documents at your direction; you review, sign and send them yourself.
